Denial of the senses, labelling them evil or even completely prohibiting sense indulgence is not the Buddhist way. Meditation and mindfulness allow practitioners to deal with sensuality wisely, particularly if it is destructive to one's self or others. And, according to Ajahn Brahm, those who *really* want to be deviant and head towards nibbana (enlightenment): "Hey babe, take a walk on the wild side..." - and try celibacy.

Here's a question I have: What does one do when he or she has found a healthy balance with something and the other person still feels threatened by it? Can a "needy" person become addicted to feeling threatened, always playing the victim?

@zezt Bringing a child into the world is rolling a dice with it's fate, for instance, look up harlequin ichthyosis. It's not life denying, it's facing the true nature of life and reality. Samsara is a burning hamster wheel, all things are tainted with imperminence, with lack of self or control, and with suffering. Only by letting go of the root causes, sensual desire, ill-will and delusion can we be free from suffering. Nirvana, freedom from suffering is the highest happiness.

@kensei85 god you Buddhists what ya like...? birth isn't ONLY suffering but loads of other stuff, like joy, lust, play, giggling, etc...? i just find your belief so life denying is all.

@zezt the instructions aren't for everyone, but those who wish to abandon lust and who do not wish to make babies. To make babies is to create suffering: birth is suffering and leads to death which is suffering. 2500 years of monks and nuns practicing abstinence hasn't made populations decrease, so whether we are abstinent or not, humanity will go on regardless, and in fact, if overpopulation is true then we are perhaps doing humanity a favour and helping the survival of future generations

@kensei85 so how then would people lust after each other then to HAVE sex and sometimes make babies?

@masaruX3 well it sure doesn't for me, but to each their own!

@kensei85 What happens when that realization has the opposite effect?
masaruX3 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
@kensei85 It seems like that would have the opposite effect.

I stopped watching pornography after contemplation that all other beings were our mothers in a previous life, it really sunk in how we should show others the respect and care you would your "real" mother, without lust.
