funny you used the word trumpet because there was a clip on here singing i've got rhythm with tony bennett, and she literally sang like a trumpet. as if she wasn't vocalizing? but just too on the sound of an instrument. it was mind blowing-just like this performance.

I remember an interview that Grace Jones gave about 20 yrs ago. I was on a vacation, in Paris for the first time and Grace was a guest on a local tv show there...she was asked which singers in the States, "impressed" her and I'll never forget her saying "Living?...Patti Labelle....Dead?...Billie Holliday". And she went on to say that everytime Patti sang, "the Earth trembled a little bit. She sounds "too good to be true". Watch closely because there will never be one like her again.

Haha, I guess "scary" is just the right word to describe it. Being a major Patti Labelle fanatic since 1985 (Live Aid), I agree that (untill now) I never witnessed anything from ms. Patti that was more than scary. I just love her, love, love her:-). YouTube should have been there way back before the 80's. Nevertheless, thanks so much for posting and giving comments. Wow, all these emotions, hard to cope & deal with.She's just one of God's best ways to show His Presence on earth! Bye from Sander

This is without a shadow of doubt the most scariest vocal I have ever heard Patti do...! She is definitely number ONE! No other can touch her vocally! What on earth was she on during Loverman! I'm mesmerised!

these were the days when she could do absolutely ANYTHING she wanted with those pipes. It was kinda scarey because everytime you saw her on shows like this, you just never knew what she was gonna do with those notes, and you were never ready for how LOUD she was going to be. It could be said that Aretha ruled the 60's and Donna Summer stole the 70's, but Patti had no peer in the 80's ON STAGE. She didnt sell all the records in the 80's like Houston but on stage, NO ONE could touch her..NO ONE. |
